Accessibility statement

Coastal Drift Media is a disability-led company. This website should work for everyone, however you see, hear, move, think or browse.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and to go beyond it to level AAA wherever we can.

In short

  • You can change text size, colours, font and spacing using the Accessibility button on every page.
  • Everything works with a keyboard, screen reader, switch device or voice control.
  • If anything doesn't work for you, email me and I'll fix it or get you the information another way.

Change how the site looks

The Accessibility button in the bottom corner of every page opens a panel where you can:

  • make text larger, up to 150%
  • switch to dark text on a light background
  • turn on high contrast
  • use an easy-read font (Atkinson Hyperlegible) without capitals or wide letter spacing
  • add more space between lines, words and letters
  • underline and outline every link
  • use a larger mouse pointer
  • stop the background video and all animation

Your choices are saved on your device for next time. Keyboard users can also reach this panel from the “Accessibility settings” link that appears when you first press Tab.

It also follows your device settings

  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the background video and animations stay off.
  • If your device asks for more contrast, high contrast switches on automatically.
  • You can zoom to 400% and the page reflows into a single column without scrolling sideways.
  • Text sizes respect the default text size set in your browser.

How the site is built

  • Every page has a “Skip to main content” link, clear headings in order, and labelled regions.
  • All controls can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a strong visible focus outline.
  • Buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels, so they're easier to tap.
  • Text colours meet AA contrast at minimum, and most meet AAA.
  • The background video on the home page has a pause button and never plays sound.
  • Films only load when you press play, and each has a written description of what's on screen.
  • Each service page opens with a short plain-English summary.
  • The contact form explains every field, tells you clearly if something's missing, and lets you choose how you'd like a reply.

How we test it

Every page is checked with automated accessibility testing (axe-core) in each display setting: standard, light background, high contrast, large text and extra spacing. We also check keyboard-only use and how pages reflow on narrow screens.

Automated tools only catch some problems. The most valuable testing is by disabled people using their own set-ups, and that's the next step. If you use assistive technology and would be willing to try the site, I'd be grateful to hear from you.

Known gaps

  • The video player is provided by Vimeo. Its controls are keyboard accessible, but some of its labels and behaviour are outside our control.
  • Some images on the service pages are placeholder artwork while new photography is taken. They're decorative and contain no information.
  • The site hasn't yet been tested by screen reader users. That's planned.

Ask for something in another format

If you need anything on this site in a different way — large print, Easy Read, an audio recording, a phone call, or a British Sign Language video — get in touch and I'll sort it.

Email peter@coastaldrift.co.uk and tell me how you'd like me to reply.

Tell me about a problem

If something on this site doesn't work for you, I want to know. Please email me with the page and what happened. You won't need to explain your access needs unless you want to.
